Burn Treatment

Burns can cause severe pain and discomfort.  Whether a burn is minor or serious, immediate care is recommended.  In case of accidents around the kitchen or anywhere else in your home, be prepared.  Always have a first aid kit that is stocked with supplies nearby.

For minor burns, cool the affected area immediately.  You can run cool water over the area or use a cold compress to help soothe your skin.  This helps reduce swelling and ease the pain.  Use a sterilized bandage our gauze to wrap the area in.  This also aids in the prevention of swelling and the protection of the skin.

For serious burns, you should immediately call 911.  Cover the area of the burn with cool moist cloths or towels, however, do not directly apply ice or cold water.  In a situation like this, stay calm and wait for medical assistance to arrive.
