Essential information for care experts
An interesting report I discovered in August 2008’s copy of OTC was about a talk given by Elizabeth Waterman from Jacqueline Webb and Company’s, about an introduction to different ways of working outside of the Statutory sector. For those of us practicing in the medico-legal area, Ms Waterman gave some extremely useful information on developing report writing skills which are essential to this area of work as a Care Expert.
Jacqueline Webb and Company essentially gives a facility to solicitors and insurers and uses the assessment skills of its therapists to consider individuals who have been hurt through no fault of their own and are claiming compensation. By taking into account the future care needs of the individual Jacqueline Webb and Company is able to carry out a complete assessment of a client from the view point of the care involved past and future, including care needs, transport, equipment, and housing needs.
What I found interesting about the talk was that it looked at the course of action from the initial assessment of the hurt party through to appearing as an expert witness at court.
Individuals that were at the talk were asked to look at their report writing skills and seek out opportunities to hone and practice them to build up a good written style making the intensely detailed reports not only exactly correct but interesting to read as well. The main areas highlighted by the talk were logical presentation, use of language, structuring of the report and professional approach.
