Remedies Which Treat Cold Sores Effectivly

The first line of advice for anyone with fever blisters or mouth ulcers, is to not pick at or rub them because they are highly contagious. Keep fingers away from the mouth and wash them often, along with any clothing, toweling or bedding. Eating oranges, lemons or other citrus fruits can cause a burning sensation and make the sores feel much worse. Some cold sore remedies to try, are topicals such as over the counter creams and ointments which offer immediate relief, especially if they have an analgesia ingredient. Two very effective topicals are Abreva and Lipactin which contain zinc. Zinc has been shown to dry up the ulcers speeding up the healing process which usually takes between 1 week to 10 days.
