Seeing the Future With New Eyes: How Gene Therapy is Helping

Many people might be seeing the future with new eyes, thanks to gene therapy.  There has been much research done on gene therapy over the years as well as how it can benefit those who suffer from various diseases where there are genes missing, etc.  For example, the latest case of gene therapy was in the UK and dealt with a young man who had a degenerative eye disease caused by a missing gene in one of his eyes.  The disease affected him in that he was almost blind whenever nightfall came around or whenever he was in dimly lit situations.  He received a single injection of the missing gene to the back of his retina, and within a period of six months, the young man was able to see clearly once again.  Now, the gene therapy hasn’t worked on everyone yet, and there are still many tests to perform.  However, the study and research lends much hope to those who can only dream of a day when they might be cured of their ailments.
